Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar stressed the need to spread awareness about consumer rights to enable them to seek compensation for deficient services and defective products. Addressing a meeting organised on the occasion of National Consumer Rights Day here on Tuesday, December 24, he said that people should be acquainted with the Consumer Protection Act (CPA).
He noted that the CPA would be amended from time to time to adapt to the changing circumstances and stressed the need to incorporate technology for its effective implementation.
Mr. Manohar said virtual hearings and digital services were introduced in the consumer courts to protect consumers’ rights more efficiently.
Consumer laws were being made more accessible, and consumers were encouraged to use them. The government planned to set up food testing laboratories in the district, for which discussions were under way.

The Minister said the government procured 2.28 Million Metric Tons (MMT) of paddy from farmers through the WhatsApp business platform. The payments to farmers were made within 48 hours. A total of 7.50 million gas cylinders were delivered under the Deepam-2 scheme. AP Food Commission Chairman Ch. Vijay Pratap Reddy, Civil Supplies Commissioner G.
