Varun Dhawan aimed to make Christmas a memorable one for him with his massy action entertainer Baby John. The initial teasers and trailers instantly attracted a lot of fans given its catchy soundtrack and breathtaking visuals.
It seems that the film lost a lot of its potential with time and with underwhelming songs as the advance booking sales show disappointing numbers for Atlee’s action entertainer. The film which was expected to have over 30 crores in box office opening might lie between 10-15 crores given the current advance bookings.

The booking numbers are in the same range of films like Laal Singh Chaddha, Gangubai Kathiawadi, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, and Vikram Vedha. All the films were disasters at the box office except Gangubai Kathiawadi which picked up pace after its release.
For a national holiday like Christmas, these numbers are worrying for the makers but it seems that no one is interested in seeing Varun Dhawan as a mighty cop fighting for his family. Though the film might be stellar, being Thalapathy Vijay’s Theri remake, many fans have already opted out as Theri has already been dubbed in Hindi.

While the majority of the audience already knows the plot, many are still preferring to watch Varun Dhawan in this action avatar. Given the surprisingly low numbers, it will be tough for Baby John to dismantle the box office which is being ruled by Pushpa 2 and Mufasa: The Lion King which features Shah Rukh Khan as the voice of Mufasa in its Hindi dub.
It remains to be seen if Varun Dhawan will be able to turn it around this Christmas and have a memorable end to 2024. He was recently seen in Citadel: Hunny Bunny which received positive reviews from critics and audiences. Only time will tell if he repeats the same type of success with Baby John.
