Over the years, the infamous “dunki route” from the Canadian border has become the preferred choice of Indians trying to enter the US illegally. Trump’s warning to Canada has now finally provoked a response from the neighboring country.
Ever since the US and Mexico raised security, there have been fewer cases of illegal entries from the southern border. The US President-elect is trying to replicate the same as he warned Justin Trudeau to take action against illegal immigration or he will impose a 25% tariff on Canada.

In response, the Canadian government has announced ramping up their border security with a $900 million plan. This will include stricter measures like drones, surveillance towers, and joint strike forces, targeting smuggling networks.
According to official data, the number of illegal immigrants in the US has been increasing every year. In 2024, nearly 44,000 Indians attempted illegal entry, up from 30,000 last year.

It was inevitable that Trump would leave no stone unturned in curbing the immigration problem. And now with Canada bowing to his demands, the “dunki route” may soon be history.
