The captain of a national cricket team must be a man who inspires other players to perform out of their skin. This statement is applicable for Rohit Sharma in the limited over format of the game.
But in the longer test format, particularly in overseas series, Rohit has to become more of a baggage than a spearhead batsman.

In the ongoing series against Australia, Rohit has barely crossed single digits in all four innings that he has played.
By the looks of it, Rohit Sharma is clearly struggling with his batting in the test format. He failed both as an opener and also as a middle order batsman.

Comparatively Jaspreet Bumrah promises to be a far better captain than Rohit Sharma as he was able to put on a spirited performance in the first test match, which was comprehensively won by India.
There is no doubting Rohit and his impeccable game knowledge which has worked wonderfully well for India in the past. But perhaps the time has come now for dawn on his captaincy career in the test format.

Rohit has been struggling badly with the bat and what he is essentially doing is adding more pressure on the top order. This is not the way we want to see a splendid player like Rohit and his career.
Perhaps Rohit is better of giving away the captaincy post and silently retire from the test format which evidently appears to be behind him now.
