R Ashwin Retires: A Legend Departs!

India’s spin wizard and one of the finest spinners in modern cricket, Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket.

Ashwin announced his retirement after the third test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia ended up as a draw. The retirement came in as a shocker for many.

Ashwin was part of the squad and all of a sudden, he decided to bid adieu after the conclusion of three tests. Fans on social media were shocked by his announcement and opined that he deserved a better farewell.

Ashwin is the second-highest Indian wicket-taker in Tests (537 wickets), placed only below Anil Kumble (619 wickets). Overall, he is the seventh-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket. In the 109 Tests he played, Ashwin bowled with a modest economy of 2.83. His best bowling figures in a Test innings is 7/59.

Ashwin is the fastest bowler to reach 250, 300, 350, 400, 450 and 500 Test Wickets. He has 37 five-wicket hauls in test cricket, placed only behind Muttaiah Muralidharan and Shane Warne.

Ashwin also took 156 wickets in ODIs and 72 wickets in T20is. He was a part of the 2011 World Cup winning squad and the 2013 Champions Trophy winning squad.

Ashwin is not only a great bowler but a dependable batter. He scored 3503 runs in Tests with six hundred and 14 half-centuries. India will definitely miss a gem of an all-rounder in Test cricket whereas the cricketing world will miss a legend on the field. Definitely, he deserved a better ending to his career.
