SS Rajamouli played a crucial role in elevating Telugu cinema to pan-India status, especially with his Baahubali series. However, many are now expressing disappointment with the trend of sequels that Rajamouli’s success has set in motion.
This new format, popularized by Baahubali, saw filmmakers splitting big-budget films into two or three parts, leading audiences to anticipate more sequels.

Movies like Pushpa, Salaar, Devara, and Kalki 2898 AD are following this trend, but there’s growing dissatisfaction among audiences.
Fans argue that these films often fail to provide a satisfying conclusion in the first part, leaving viewers with a sense that “something is missing.”

For example, while Pushpa: The Rise created excitement for a sequel, it didn’t offer enough story closure, and Pushpa 2: The Rule seems poised to lead into a third part.
In Pushpa 2, there is no significant story progression. Nothing much changes before and after the film except for the change of Chief Minister.

The only subplot that gets some closure is the dispute between the brothers. That dispute also gets resolved in the most contrived manner with no brilliance i writing.
After the film, the audience is left questioning, “Is this what we were waiting for three years?”
In the past, filmmakers typically concluded the story in one film and then explored sequels with fresh narratives. Now, films are often divided into parts with incomplete stories, forcing audiences to wait for the next installment.
Salaar also received criticism for its first part not having a proper climax, with many questioning whether the movie had truly ended.
While Rajamouli’s Baahubali helped popularize this trend, it has now become a point of contention in the industry. Fans are now voicing their desire for films to offer complete stories in each part, rather than leaving them hanging.
Let’s hope SS Rajamouli’s next film with Mahesh Babu, SSMB29, will offer a satisfying conclusion in the first part before continuing the saga in a sequel.
