Taking a dig at the BJP, Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre said that there have been attempts to attack one community and alienate them from the mainstream.
During a discussion on Anubhava Manatapa, a painting of which was unveiled at the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha here on Monday, the Minister without referring to any community said: “One community is being attacked and attempts being made to alienate them from the mainstream. Every community has equal rights.”
Further, questioning the BJP on its silence to “insults hurled at Basavanna”, the Forest Minister asked: “What will you do to address the insult to Basavanna? Your silence shows that you approve of the statement.”
His remarks came to an apparent statement by Vijayapura legislator Basanagouda R. Patil Yatnal on Basavanna’s death, which had earlier kicked up a row.
The BJP members, including former Home Minister Araga Jnanendra, took objection to the statement and accused Mr. Khandre of creating a diversion from the discussion on Anubhava Mantapa. The Minister, however, defended himself saying that he had not named anyone in the discussion.
