After suffering racist abuse from a woman in a US airline’s shuttle bus, an Indian-American family is not letting the case die down easily, taking legal action on the matter.
Parvez Taufiz, traveling with his wife and kids, became a victim of racial slurs and expletives hurled at his family by a fellow passenger last month. After he shared the video of the incident on social media, he gained a lot of support from netizens.

However, opening up on his experience, Taufiz disclosed that there was no sense of responsibility from United Airlines. This has pushed the Indian-origin photographer to take legal action against the woman.
Ironically, the woman, identified as Arlene Consuela, has Mexican heritage, meaning that an immigrant was questioning another immigrant’s American citizenship. In a time when the racial divide is on the rise in US politics, the immigrant communities need to support each other instead of fighting among themselves.

“Our generation refuses to stay silent,” Taufiz said, comparing his aggressive approach to the passive acceptance of his parents who must’ve been subjected to similar racist attacks. His message is clear: silence enables hate, and standing up is his duty.
