USA Rejects BJPs Claims of Deep State Plot Targeting India

The US has rejected the BJP’s allegations that organizations funded by the US State Department and elements of the American “deep state” are orchestrating efforts to destabilize India by targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and business magnate Gautam Adani.

A US embassy spokesperson termed these allegations “disappointing,” emphasizing that the US has consistently championed global media freedom.

The BJP alleged that the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), funded by the US State Department’s USAID and “deep state” figures like George Soros and the Rockefeller Foundation, colluded with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to tarnish India’s image.

Congress leaders criticized the BJP’s claims, calling them an “embarrassment to India.” The BJP is accused of undermining democratic principles and international diplomacy.

The controversy follows the BJP’s reference to OCCRP reports, which Rahul Gandhi used to accuse the Adani Group of benefiting from government favoritism.

The BJP also cited a French media report, claiming OCCRP’s funding sources indicate a hidden agenda.

However, the US embassy clarified that its funding supports capacity-building programs for journalists without influencing editorial direction.

The allegations coincide with separate charges by US prosecutors last month against Gautam Adani and associates. They alleged Adani paid $250 million in bribes for solar energy contracts. The Adani Group dismissed these claims as baseless.

Meanwhile, the Congress has demanded a thorough probe, accusing the government of shielding Adani.

The US reiterated its commitment to press freedom, asserting that a free and independent media is vital for democracy and accountability.
