Kolkata set to lose nearly half of its iconic yellow Ambassador taxis

The iconic yellow Ambassador taxis, a beloved symbol of Kolkata’s nostalgic past, are gradually disappearing from the streets of the ‘City of Joy.’
Once the lifeline of the city’s bustling streets, these Hindustan Ambassador taxis, affectionately known as “yellow cabs,” have steadily been phased out in recent years. Soon, more than 50% of the city’s yellow taxi fleet will be retired.
Rising maintenance costs and stringent pollution regulations are the main factors driving the decision to retire these vehicles, many of which are nearing the 15-year mark.
