Brock Purdy set to return for huge 49ers vs Bills showdown with his team’s season on the line

San Francisco 49ers have received a massive boost with Brock Purdy set to return for their potentially season-defining game against Buffalo Bills.

Last year’s Super Bowl runners-up are running out of time to hit top form with the postseason looming.

They are last in the NFC West, sitting on a 5-6 record, but leaders Seattle Seahawks are only 6-5 so there is plenty for Kyle Shanahan’s men to fight for.

But last week, quarterback Purdy missed the heavy 38-10 loss to Green Bay Packers with shoulder soreness on his throwing arm. Brandon Allen played in his place.

He is still listed as questionable for Sunday’s game in Buffalo but coach Shanahan is confident his main quarterback will make his return after recording a full practice session on Friday.

‘I would suggest that,’ Shanahan said. ‘Lots of things can happen between now and then, but right now he’s playing.

‘It was great to get him back out there. He was able to go fully today so, it was a good day.’

Purdy also made a point of underlining the fact that the worst of his shoulder issues are behind.

Last week was definitely new, going into it and knowing that I can’t play,’ Purdy said. ‘But I’m glad that we’re moved on we’re healthy and ready for this one.’

The Bills will be formidable opponents for the 49ers, going into the game with a 9-2 record for the season at the summit of the AFC East.

Furthermore, a snowstorm is forecast to hit Buffalo and the Bills have put out a request for fans to help dig snow out from around the stadium before kickoff, which is scheduled for 8:25pm ET.

A victory for the Bills would mean they win the AFC East.
