After being active in politics for a long time, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi finally entered the Lok Sabha today as a Member of Parliament. Recently, Priyanka won the Wayanad MP seat, which was vacated by her brother Rahul Gandhi. She won with a thumping majority of over 4,10,931 in the first election she contested.
Priyanka Gandhi took oath as the MP this morning in the presence of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Rahul Gandhi, and a few other Congress leaders. Just like Rahul, Priyanka was also seen holding the Indian Constitution book in her hand.

After years in active politics, Priyanka has finally stepped into the electoral arena. With Congress searching for a strong leader, the party places high hopes on her.
Initially, Congress thought Rahul Gandhi to be the successor of Sonia Gandhi. But he completely failed to live up to expectations. He was projected as the Prime Ministerial candidate since 2014. However, Congress has lost three consecutive parliamentary elections since then.

Moreover, Rahul Gandhi failed to compete with Narendra Modi as a Prime Ministerial candidate. The major reason for Congress’s failure was the lack of good leadership, which was evident over the last decade. In 2024, Congress’s UPA managed to fare better than in the 2019 elections, but it was largely due to the support of regional parties.
Rahul Gandhi also failed to capitalize on the Lok Sabha performance in the recent state elections. As a result, Congress recently lost in the Haryana and Maharashtra Assembly polls, which is a major setback for the party.

Thus, Priyanka’s entry into Lok Sabha is giving Congress new hope. Though she is a new face in Parliament, she is not new to politics. Moreover, Congress thrived under the women of her family, Indira and Sonia Gandhi.
As Rahul Gandhi is not giving promising results, Congress leaders are hoping Priyanka will be the face of Congress. They expect her to lead like her mother and grandmother. So, we have to see how Priyanka progresses as a public leader in the coming days. As of now, all eyes are on Priyanka to see if she can become a new dawn for Congress or remain just a false hope.
