The 2023 ICC World Cup will be the 13th edition of the 50-over marquee tournament organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Although England is the reigning champions and will defend their crown of ODI champions, Australia has been a dominating force in the ODI World Cups with five titles in their dressing room.

England won the last edition of the ICC World Cup which was held in 2019 in England by defeating New Zealand in a controversial super-over after the match was tied. Interestingly, England and New Zealand also matched their super-over scores and eventually on the basis of the overall boundary count, the former team was declared the winner. England had scored 26 boundaries while New Zealand had scored 17.

ICC World Cup 2023 Schedule

The ICC World Cup 2023 was earlier scheduled to be held in March 2023, but the Covid pandemic spoiled all the planning and ICC had to reschedule the tournament. The marquee event was eventually pushed back by six months and now it will be held in the month of October-November 2023. As of today (28th January 2023), the official schedule for the ODI World Cup 2023 is not announced. Stay Tuned we will update it as soon as we get any update.

ICC World Cup 2023 Format

The format of the ICC World Cup 2023 is similar to what we saw in the 2019 World Cup. All 10 teams will compete in the round-robin followed by the knockout fixtures. A team will play against nine opponents once in the round-robin stage. For a win, team will be awarded two points while a no-result will end in two teams sharing one-point each. The top four teams at the end of the round-robin will play semi-final matches and the two winning teams will contest in the final of the ICC World Cup 2023 on 26 November 2023.

ICC World Cup 2023 Host

India and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have won the hosting rights of the quadrennial tournament in 2023. It will be the first time India will host an ODI World Cup all by itself. Back in 2011, India hosted the ODI World Cup along with Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Beside 2011, India has hosted Cricket World Cup twice (1987, 1996).

ICC World Cup 2023 Qualification

A total of 10 teams will play in the ICC World Cup in 2023. India being the host will get the privilege of automatic qualification to the showpiece event. The top seven teams in the ICC World Cup 2023 Super League Points Table will get direct qualification to the ODI World Cup, along with India.

Meanwhile, the remaining two teams will be decided after the ICC World Cup 2023 Qualifiers. The remaining five teams in the ICC World Cup 2023 Super League, the top 3 teams from World Cup League 2 and the top two team teams from the World Cup Qualifier Play-off will compete in the ICC World Cup 2023 Qualifier. The top two teams will get entry to the ODI World Cup 2023 along with the aforementioned eight teams.

ICC World Cup 2023 Squad

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shortlisted 20 players who will be part of India’s squad in the ICC World Cup 2023. The selected players will be played on a rotation basis in the lead-up to the World Cup. Moreover, the physical fitness of the players will be monitored closely.
