Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies may have failed to do enough collections at the ticket counters. However, the film continues getting praise and now it has created another record.
The comedy-drama was released in Japan on October 4 this year and it is doing well in terms of numbers compared to other blockbuster films over the years, including Baahubali 2: The Conclusion.

As per the latest report, Laapataa Ladies has accumulated almost Rs. 2.70 crores in Japan. The collection is being considered better and bigger than Pathaan, and Salaar, with the latter touching Rs. 2.49 crores.
Notably, several films from India have done exceptionally well in Japan over the years. Even though the list includes titles like Magadheera and Enthiran, late actor Irrfan Khan’s The Lunchbox was also able to pull audiences.

Meanwhile, Laapataa Ladies is a little bit away from reaching the list of the top 5 highest-grossing Indian films in Japan.
It currently needs a jump of 109%, which might not be an easy job. But based on the overall budget, the current number is not bad.

Laapataa Ladies has already made it to the Oscars and if things go fine, it might bring an Academy Award for India next year. It has also proved the potential of small-budget films, making producers rethink before investing Rs. 100-200 crores.
The success of these kinds of films has opened a new path for filmmakers and there is a possibility that we would get to see similar ones in the upcoming years.
However, everything depends on whether producers can get rid of their attraction to big stars and large-scale projects.
