In a surprising series of events, ‘Karna’. The highly-awaited mythological epic starring Tamil superstar Suriya and Janhvi Kapoor has been shelved indefinitely.
The project was directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, with backing from Excel Entertainment.

This two-part series faced harsh monetary challenges, and its fate became pretty clear when its producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani became unable to sustain the project after its production cost spiralled out of control.
According to various reports, Excel Entertainment had previously urged Mehra to lower the budget, giving a warning to back out if he failed to do so.

Suriya’s underwhelming performance with ‘Kanguva’ played another major role in the shelving of the project, as it raised doubts about his bankability in pan-Indian films, especially the ones rooted deep in mythology.
Social media has been buzzing with comments ever since the project was officially shelved. One user wrote, “Karna could have been the game-changer for Suriya in the North. Sad to see it shelved.”

Another commented, “Bollywood’s lack of faith in big-budget epics is why we miss masterpieces like RRR.”
People also expressed their concerns regarding the casting choice, with one user writing, “Suriya as Karna was always an odd choice for a Mahabharata story.”
While this comes as a big setback for Suriya, who was looking for a pan-India debut, fans are still hopeful regarding the project’s potential revival in the future with new backers.
