Suriya’s Kanguva, Shankar’s Indian 2: Tamil Pan-India hopes crushed?

Among South Indian film industries, Tamil and Telugu movies are always ahead, with star heroes who can generate massive revenues and talented technicians.

But the Kannada industry came into the limelight with its first 1000 crore film, KGF 2, thanks to Prashanth Neel. However, no other director has shown the promise to continue this momentum in Kannada cinema.

The Telugu industry has already produced not one, but multiple 1000 crore grossers, with more on the way.

Surprisingly, the Tamil industry is still behind in this aspect.

Suriya’s recent film was their hope, but Kanguva became an outright disaster right from the first shows, putting the 1000 crore dream out of reach.

Shankar was the first pan-India director from Tamil cinema who delivered big numbers with Robot and Robot 2.0. But he recently delivered one of the biggest pan India disasters Indian 2.

Now, there is very little hope for the Tamil industry to deliver a pan India hit forget blockbuster that will cross the 1000 crore mark.

Despite having a capable director like Lokesh Kanagaraj, they lack a star hero who can generate significant revenues for a Tamil film from Bollywood, which is crucial for achieving a 1000 crore film for the Tamil industry.
