At least, Rahul’s selection is justifiable considering his seniority and finesse, the fact that Padikkal who had been in horrendous form of late is raising doubts.
Padikkal got out for 0 from 23 balls, while the in-form Sarfaraz Khan was warming the bench. This is the kind of horrific miscalculation that has been costing the team heavily over the years.

The onus is now on debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy to steer the ship but this is going to be an enormous task considering the failure of the top order.
