Kalki Collections Dispute: US Numbers Under-Reported Too?

The issue between the producers of Kalki 2898 AD and the US distributor, Prathyangira Cinemas reached the Active Telugu Film Producers Guild (ATFPG).

It is known that the producers have alleged severe under-reporting of the collections of the film from Europe region and is alleging unfair practices by Prathyangira Cinemas.

The Guild invited two senior well-known U.S. distributors with experience handling films of all scales to the meeting. They showed the final settlement statement to them and sought their opinion on whether Prathyangira Cinemas had indeed under-reported the collections.

As per the final settlement statement of Europe, the movie collected 1.2 Million Euros and the distributor only offered 200K Euros after commission and all expenses.

A non-existent Sales Tax in the Expenses shown also became a talking point in the Guild meeting.

Sources say that the issue is no longer only about the Europe collections and the producers are also suspecting under-reporting of numbers in the North America.

They believe that Kalki, which collected much more than RRR, should have been offered a higher share percentage across all theater chains, but that wasn’t the case. This triggered a lot of suspicion around the numbers presented.

Prathyangira Cinemas reportedly offered only a 55% share for Kalki from the Cinemark chain, but producer Swapna Dutt discovered that Cinemark paid 60% for RRR, which collected less than Kalki in the U.S. The lower percentage offered for Kalki has also become a topic of discussion.

Vyjayanthi Movies reportedly sent an email to Cinemark, the largest theater chain in the United States, seeking clarity about the share offered to the distributor.

Cinemark has yet to respond to the email. If there is no response, the producer plans to take legal route.

We also know that Swapna Dutt is requesting the Chamber and Guild to stall Prathyangira Cinemas from releasing Pushpa 2.

But then, the producers of Mythri Movie Makers are in Patna on Sunday and did not come to the meeting on Monday.

The Guild is expected to call the producers for the next meeting and discuss with them.
