A Southwest Airlines plane preparing for takeoff at Texas’ Dallas Love Field on Friday night was struck by a bullet, prompting the aircraft to return to the terminal, according to the airline’s statement.
“Southwest Airlines Flight 2494 was set to depart for Indianapolis when a bullet apparently struck the right side of the plane, just below the flight deck, as the crew was preparing for takeoff,” a Southwest spokesperson said, as quoted by Reuters. “No injuries were reported. Law enforcement authorities have been notified and the plane has been removed from service.”
The Us-based airlines’ flight was scheduled to fly from Dallas to Indianapolis when the incident occurred.
The security incident took place at approximately 9.50 pm local time, according to Dallas Love Field Airport, which prompted both Dallas police and Dallas Fire-Rescue to respond.
The airport released a statement, confirming that passengers were safely evacuated after the aircraft was damaged.
