Potential Oscar Winner from India: Title Changed

Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies is going to the upcoming Academy Awards as India’s official entry. However, there is a little twist as the title has been changed to Lost Ladies so that it can connect well with the international audience.

The poster with the English title was also shared by actress Nitanshi Goel, who played one of the leads, through Instagram. Notably, the comedy-drama was selected among 29 films, among which 12 were in Hindi.

Kiran has already expressed her gratitude in a statement, saying that she is feeling “honoured and delighted.” Kiran mentioned that she is expecting the film to resonate with viewers all around the world.

While Laapataa Ladies did not have a proper run at the box office, it was praised by the audience following its arrival on OTT. The performances of the lead cast were specifically appreciated along with the novel concept.

However, it remains to be seen if the film can bring an Oscar to India for another time and whether the title change will be able to attract international viewers.

This was achieved last time by S.S. Rajamouli’s RRR back in 2023.

The basic premise of Laapataa Ladies focuses on two brides who get mixed up on a crowded train and end up in each other’s house. While one of them waits for her husband to find her, the other one decides to pursue her interests.
