Suspended Premier League referee David Coote ‘filmed snorting white powder during Euro 2024’

  • Coote has been suspended by the PGMOL for making disparaging comments about Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp
  • A video has now emerged of him allegedly snorting a white powder this summer

A video has emerged of suspended referee David Coote appearing to snort a white powder in a hotel room while he was officiating at the Euros.

The eight-second clip, leaked on Wednesday night, shows the official using a rolled-up bank note to inhale the powder in what may well be a further damaging development for the 42-year-old.

Coote was suspended by refs’ body PGMOL, who launched an investigation after a separate video emerged of him calling Jurgen Klopp a ‘German c***’ and Liverpool ‘s***’. He was also stood down from officiating on matches by UEFA.

The latest video is said to have been taken on July 6, a day after the Euro quarter-final fixture between Spain and hosts Germany, in which he was a support VAR official.

It is also reported to have been filmed inside a UEFA-funded hotel room. UEFA declined to comment last night.

A PGMOL spokesperson said: ‘We aware of the allegations and are taking them very seriously. David Coote remains suspended pending a full investigation. David’s welfare continues to be of utmost importance to us and we are committed to providing him with the ongoing necessary support he needs through this period. We are not in a position to comment further at this stage.’

In the video of Coote allegedly snorting the white powder are packets of prescription drugs, a credit card, and the Terry Hayes novel The Year of The Locust.

The Sun, who obtained the clip, claim Coote sent the clip to a friend from his hotel room.

The Sun also alleges Coote sent his friend a separate photo on July 1 of his credit card on a saucer alongside six chopped-up lines of white powder.

His friend, who has not been named, reportedly claims Coote made disparaging reports about Everton Football Club, including calling Goodison Park the worst place to officiate due to fans ‘shouting abuse so close to the pitch’.

The friend also alleges Coote labelled Liverpool defender Andy Robertson a ‘Scottish p****’, while saying in video chats that the Reds ‘will not win the Premier League’ this season.

Arne Slot’s side are currently five points clear at the top of the table after 11 games.
