Varun Tej’s career was going smoothly with hits like Fidaa, Tholi Prema, F2, and Gaddalakonda Ganesh. His height, looks, and decent acting skills turned out to be a plus for him. He was considered a minimum-guarantee hero. But then he tried to experiment and failed massively.
He did films like Antariksham, Ghani, Gandeevadhari Arjuna, and Operation Valentine, all of which flopped miserably. His market went completely down.

Now, he is trying to rise again with Karuna Kumar’s period drama Matka in which he plays a gangster. After Diwali, the new releases haven’t made much impact at the box office. Last week’s releases Dhoom Dham and Jithender Reddy couldn’t manage to attract many viewers to the theaters. So the holdover Diwali releases Lucky Bhaskar, Ka, and Amaran did well in their second weekend.
Hence there is a demand for a new good film in theaters this week, which Matka can capitalize on. The bookings have opened, and as of now, pre-sales are very ordinary. The film needs to pick up big time.

On the other hand, Matka is competing with a big film like Kanguva, so it must get a supremely positive word of mouth to survive at the box office.
Only if the public talk is extremely positive then Matka might surprise and emerge as a much-needed hit for Varun Tej.
Director Karuna Kumar is extremely confident and says that Matka is a film that will be remembered even 20 years from now.
Let’s hope Varun Tej scores a solid hit with Matka.
