Suriya’s Biggest Comeback Or Setback?

Suriya’s Biggest Comeback Or Setback?

Suriya was once hailed as the next superstar after continuous hits like Kaakha Kaakha, Aaru, Vel, Ghajini, and Singam. These films not only became huge hits in Tamil but also Telugu.

He created a huge market in Telugu and his films guaranteed a minimum box office collection of 10 crores.

Recently, legendary director SS Rajamouli also said that he got the inspiration to make pan-India films from Suriya, highlighting his craze during those times.

And then Suriya started delivering flops one after the other. He had a great 2000s but a disastrous 2010s.

In the last 14 years, except for Singam films and 24, he doesn’t have any major hits. 24 also did only average business but was termed as a good film.

All his big films like The Seventh Sense, Maattraan, Anjaan, Masss, NGK, Kaappaan, Thaanaa Serndha Koottam, and others turned out to be big flops.

Soorarai Pottru and Jai Bhim achieved success but on OTT which doesn’t count as box office winners.

So now he is coming up with Kanguva, a historical adventure film, mounted on a huge budget. The film is being released as a pan-India film across many languages. It is expected to be the first 1000 crore grosser from the Tamil industry.

A lot is riding on this film for Suriya. If the film turns out to be a hit then Suriya will stage a huge comeback and the potential of his next films would soar to the next level.

But if Kanguva fails to deliver, it will be the biggest setback for Suriya. Achieving similar hype at the pan-India level would become extremely difficult again. He might have to relegate himself to doing local Tamil films or films for OTT.
