According to sources, while domestic tourism has remained stagnant at 8 Million visitors since 2019, foreign tourism has seen an unbelievable decline from 8.5 Million in 2019 to 1.5 Million in 2023.

Various sources have claimed that former loyalists from Russia and the UK are also shifting to destinations like Sri Lanks, citing Goa’s rising prices along with massive tourist exploitation.
Social media users have been giving various reasons for Goa’s massive decline. Many have cited that overcharging for average experiences in Goa has become highly unsustainable.

Many South Asian Nations have relaxed their visa norms to attract tourists, and due to much cheaper rates and better infrastructure, foreign tourists prefer those places instead of Goa.
Many people have warned that if Goa does not respond to this ‘wake-up call’, it might soon lose its remaining charm. If word-of-mouth spreads, domestic tourists may also decide to skip the place in favour of other spots.
