Historic Win For Indian Americans!

Despite Kamala Harris conceding a defeat in the presidential race, Indian-Americans continue to break new ground in US politics. This year, the community has increased its presence in the House of Representatives from five to six seats.

Suhas Subramanyam is a key figure as he made history by being the first Indian-American elected from Virginia and the East Coast. The Democratic representative celebrated his victory and emphasized fighting for local issues that directly affect his family and community.

Subramanyam joins the group of Indian-American members in Congress informally known as the “Samosa Caucus.” Raja Krishnamoorthi, Elected Representative of Illinois, playfully coined the term to highlight their shared heritage and growing influence in the US.

The caucus already had five members all of whom were re-elected this year. These members bring an Indian-American perspective to issues such as immigration, healthcare, and civil rights, advocating for policies that affect their community and the US-India relations.

Kamala Harris still created history by being the first presidential candidate of Indian descent and giving her opponent a tough fight. On the other side, Usha Vance, wife of Trump’s running mate JD Vance, became the first-ever Indian-origin Second Lady of America.

This historic outcome highlights the growing influence of Indian-Americans in US politics, as they continue to make strides.
