MDU Rohtak’s hotel and tourism institute wins big at national millet competition

ROHTAK: Students from M.D. University institute of Hotel and Tourism Management (IHTM) here made a mark at the national level by winning two awards in the AMRUT – AICTE Millet Recipe Unleashing Talent Grand Finale in New Delhi recently.
The team, led by Prof. Ashish Dahiya, earned two Rs 1 lakh awards for their standout dishes, Kodo Millet Salad and Bajra Churma, from a field of over 1,000 competing teams.
The AMRUT competition, organised by AICTE as part of the international year of millets, invited participants from across the country to showcase millet-based recipes.
Out of 1,298 entries, only 88 teams made it to the finals, competing in categories for starters, main course, and desserts. IHTM’s culinary creativity shone through in both the presentation and innovation of their dishes.
The event was judged by a panel of top culinary experts, including chef Gunjan Goela and chef Nishant Choubey, who evaluated the dishes on flavor, innovation, and presentation. The awards ceremony, held at AICTE’s headquarters, saw AICTE Chairman Prof. T.G. Sitharam and guest of honour Sharmila Jain Oswal, also known as the “Millet Woman of India,” celebrating the winners.
Reflecting on the win, Prof. Ashish Dahiya said, “This is a proud moment for our institute, showing the talent and dedication of our students and faculty.” He also credited MDU vice-chancellor Prof. Rajbir Singh for his support. “Under Prof. Rajbir Singh’s leadership, we’re achieving new heights,” Dahiya added.
