Baseball fans tore into Yankees star Giancarlo Stanton after he was thrown out at home plate in Game 3 of the World Series.
Stanton has shone for New York during this postseason but with his team trailing 3-0 at the bottom of the fourth, the 34-year-old failed to reach home plate after Anthony Volpe hooked the ball into left field.
Clips of Stanton running between bases soon flooded social media, with fans comparing him to president Joe Biden and branding him ‘is the slowest man on Earth’.
‘Giancarlo Stanton is one of the few professional athletes that I think isn’t guaranteed to beat any average dude on the street in a footrace,’ one supporter wrote on social media.
‘Giancarlo Stanton sure can hit homers but you know what he can’t do? Run. Or slide,’ another joked.
Earlier on Monday night, Freddie Freeman again wrote his name into the baseball history books with yet another home run against the Yankees.
Freeman won Game 1 of the World Series with a dramatic walk-off grand slam before he cleared the fences once more as the Los Angeles Dodgers moved 2-0 ahead in the best-of-seven series.
As the action headed to the Bronx for Game 3, the 35-year-old picked up where he left off, scoring a two-run homer in the first inning.
It saw the Dodgers take an early 2-0 advantage. It also meant Freeman joined George Springer as the only players in MLB history to homer in five straight World Series games. The streak dates back to his time with the Atlanta Braves.
Not only that, Freeman became just the third player ever to hit a home run in each of the first three games of a World Series – after Hank Bauer in 1958 and Barry Bonds in 2002.
