Why Did CBN Choose Former IG A.R. Anuradha for APPSC?

The TDP government has appointed former IPS officer A.R. Anuradha as Chairperson of the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC), a decision that surprised many, including Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s selection.

The government, aiming to restore the integrity of the APPSC, sought an official who could handle the responsibilities efficiently and impartially, ultimately appointing Anuradha from the Andhra Pradesh cadre.

A.R. Anuradha is notable for being the first woman IPS officer to lead the Intelligence Department in Andhra Pradesh. Her appointment is seen as a move to address the irregularities that have plagued the APPSC since 2019.

When YSRCP came to power in 2019, Uday Bhaskar was the Chairman of the APPSC. He reportedly clashed with the government, refused to comply with its directives, and at times, his office was even locked without prior notice. The staff under him largely ignored his authority.

The YSRCP later nominated former DGP Gautam Sawang as the new Chairman of APPSC. Under his leadership, several individuals, allegedly unqualified, were appointed as APPSC members. There were accusations of partiality, especially in the 2018 Group-I main exam paper evaluation.

The decision to switch from manual to digital correction of exam papers also sparked controversy, with the High Court raising objections. Additionally, rumors circulated that paper evaluations were conducted at Hai-Land resorts, and allegations of bribes in exchange for Group-I positions surfaced.

Chandrababu Naidu aims to address these issues and bring transparency to the recruitment process for government jobs. This is why he chose former Intelligence Chief A.R. Anuradha as the new Chairperson of the APPSC, believing she will restore order and fairness to the commission.
