Over the last few days, it has been reported that OTT platforms Jio Cinema and Disney+ Hostar are merging into one entity, Jio Hotstar. This move came months after the merger of Star India into Reliance Jio’s Viacom 18.
Just after media reports hinted that Jio Hotstar would be the possible name of the OTT platform, the domain jiohotstar.com was bought by a Delhi-based app developer.

He demanded one crore rupees for selling the domain and asked Jio to fund that money for his higher studies abroad. Within a few hours, he updated the post and stated that he was giving up on the fight as a common man like him cannot fight giants like the Ambanis who own Reliance Jio. The saga seemed to end as expected, with powerful and influential individuals winning.
However, here comes a new twist. The app developer has sold the domain to two siblings from the UAE, who manage a charitable trust. The newly launched site, “Our Journey of Seva,” introduces Jainam and Jivika, who share stories of their 50-day journey in India during their summer break, dedicated to helping children learn and set life goals. The site is filled with photos, videos, and messages about their experiences.

People on social media now say that the Ambanis could have overpowered the app developer within the Indian legal system, given their influence. However, now that the domain is owned by UAE citizens, navigating international laws may pose a challenge for the Ambanis. Thus, they are calling it as a masterstroke by the app developer.
