Director Vasan Bala deactivated his Twitter/X account after facing backlash for defending his latest film, Jigra, which has performed poorly at the box office.
Despite the film featuring Alia Bhatt, it has struggled to attract audiences, earning only ₹25 crore against its ₹80 crore budget.

In an interview, Vasan stated that he doesn’t consider box office numbers as the sole measure of success. After he defended Jigra on social media, many users criticized him, calling him “arrogant” for not acknowledging the film’s poor performance.
Vasan’s Twitter account was deleted after the negative comments, leaving behind a blank page and empty replies to his previous tweets. This move sparked further discussion, with many people coming to his defense.

Some pointed out that he should not be solely blamed for the film’s failure, as it was promoted heavily with Alia Bhatt and producer Karan Johar in the spotlight.
They argued that he was unfairly left to face the criticism alone after the film did not meet expectations, even though he was not the only one involved in its promotion.

Jigra marks another loss venture for Karan Johar who hasn’t been able to deliver even a single universal success in the post-pandemic era.
