NEW DELHI: Union home minister and minister of cooperation, Amit Shah, addressed the 2023 batch probationers of the Indian Police Service (IPS) in New Delhi, urging them to eliminate anti-national activities with a ruthless approach. Interacting with the 76 RR batch, Shah emphasised the importance of citizen safety as the cornerstone of national security and highlighted that PM Modi’s Viksit Bharat in 2047 would be a terror-free and drug-free country, having internal security, and will ensure protection of human rights and rights of citizens.
Shah encouraged the probationers to reflect on their responsibilities, stating that they have a greater role than the previous 75 batches. He stressed that it is up to them to shape the future of policing in India, ensuring that the nation progresses into the next generation of law enforcement.
He noted the significant progress made in areas previously affected by violence, such as Jammu and Kashmir, the North-East, and left-wing extremism, where violence has been reduced by 70%. Shah credited Indian agencies with gaining control in these regions and highlighted the shift towards a culture of democratic change, resulting in fewer protests.
He emphasised the police’s role in reducing crime and securing citizens’ rights, citing the introduction of three new laws to enhance transparency and efficiency.
The minister highlighted technological advancements, including the use of artificial intelligence to simplify police work. Shah stated that 99% of police stations are now online, and new laws emphasise timely justice and the use of scientific evidence to increase convictions.
He concluded by saying that the security of citizens is the foundation of national security. Shah affirmed the importance of safeguarding the rights guaranteed by the Constitution and called for the police to focus on protecting the poor, women, and children.
Union home secretary, director, intelligence bureau and director, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA), among others were present on the occasion.
