Dynamic Ticket Pricing in AP: Game-changer?

On Tuesday meeting with Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, former president of the Andhra Pradesh Film Chamber and MD of Poornah Pictures, Grandhi Vishwanath, emphasized the need for flexible ticket pricing in the Telugu film industry.

He pointed out that both OTT platforms and high ticket prices are creating barriers for audiences, particularly among lower-income groups.

Vishwanath suggested that adopting a flexible pricing model, similar to those implemented in states like Telangana, Maharashtra, and Karnataka, could rejuvenate the film industry.

This approach would allow ticket prices to vary based on the film’s budget and other constraints, making cinema more accessible to a broader audience.

He argued that this model could benefit small films significantly and encourage more viewers to visit theaters.

In response, Pawan Kalyan expressed his support for the proposal and promised to bring it to the attention of the Chief Minister.

With Telangana currently implementing ticket prices ranging from ₹112 to ₹295 (inclusive of GST), this dynamic pricing strategy aims to strike a balance between affordability for viewers and profitability for producers.

However, there have been concerns that producers continue to push for ticket price hikes despite these regulations, indicating a need for a more effective solution.

Implementing flexible ticket pricing could potentially revitalize the industry and ensure that films remain accessible to all.
