Luck Factor in Lucky Draw!!

The recent lottery system for liquor shop licenses in Andhra Pradesh saw a mix of fortune and strategy as 3,396 shops were up for grabs, with 89,882 applications submitted. Some applicants, despite investing heavily with multiple submissions, were left empty-handed, while others succeeded with just one or two applications, highlighting the unpredictable luck factor.

A notable example of this was Koppaka Tulsi, a CA finalist, who applied for just one shop in Santamagulur Mandal of the Addanki Constituency and managed to secure it. She submitted the application in her own name, believing her decision to apply with a single, hopeful attempt would bring her success, which it did. Tulsi’s win, using a portion of her saved pocket money for the application fee, underscores the element of luck in this process.

Meanwhile, Sujala, daughter of late industrialist and MP SPY Reddy, managed to secure multiple shops across different districts, including Kurnool, Annamaiya, Anantapur, and Peeleru constituencies, reflecting a more extensive approach.

In contrast, State Municipal Minister P. Narayana invested around Rs. 2 crores through 100 activists but ended up securing only three shops, a reminder that luck often outweighs even substantial financial input in such lotteries.

Interestingly, applicants from outside the state, such as Maheshabate from Karnataka and Lokeshchand from Uttar Pradesh, secured prominent shops in Machilipatnam. Following their wins, they became the target of local traders who began negotiating to acquire these high-value shops.
