Epic Disaster Dhruva Sarja’s Martin: Legal Notice On YouTubers

Epic Disaster Dhruva Sarja’s Martin: Legal Notice On YouTubers

After the much-anticipated release of Dhruva Sarja’s Martin last Friday, the film has become a major topic of discussion for all the wrong reasons.

While expectations were already low, only a few could have predicted that it would be so bad, making it a new source of brutal trolling on social media.

Rumored to be one of the most expensive Kannada films ever, Martin has been heavily criticized for its poor CGI and VFX, alongside numerous other technical and screenplay shortcomings.

Directed by AP Arjun, the action thriller opened to disappointing reviews from both critics and audiences, making a mere 6.30 crores on its first day. The situation only worsened, with collections plummeting to 5.40 crores on Saturday and further dropping to 3.30 crores on Sunday.

By the end of its opening weekend, the film had earned only 15 crores net across all languages, and given the negative word-of-mouth, it’s unlikely to reach the 30 crore mark throughout its theatrical run.

With a production budget rumored to be around 100 crores, Martin has earned just 5-10% of its cost so far, leaving it with a staggering deficit of nearly 90 crores.

In a desperate attempt to manage public perception, the makers of Martin are going after YouTubers who gave negative reviews of their film.

Instead of taking feedback to improve, they are sending copyright strikes and legal notices to these YouTubers for using images like posters and screenshots from the movie in their videos. This seems like a way to get back at them.

As a result, many YouTubers have had to remove their videos because of threats from the Martin team.

One popular YouTuber mentioned that they won’t review any Kannada films anymore, except for those made by the Shetty trio (Raj, Rishab, and Rakshit), who are known for being open about both praise and criticism.

Another YouTuber expressed frustration, saying it’s ridiculous to get a copyright notice for using a publicly available movie poster, calling it a sad situation for Kannada cinema.
