It was common for an LGBTQ film to get involved in controversy around 20-30 years ago. Things changed and now people have slowly started to accept them. However, a section of society still refuses to believe in such concepts.
Over the years, Indian cinema has attempted to present the concept of LGBTQ without making the viewers feel uneasy while watching the same.

We have seen multiple examples, including Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan, which was another decent hit film of 2020, featuring two men who fought with society to accept their love. Last year, there was Dream Girl 2 that presented the concept in a different form.
Notably, filmmakers hardly care about controversies anymore when it comes to bringing the subject of LGBTQ on the big screen. The reason is the decriminalization of homosexuality by the Supreme Court of India in May 2018.

Mammootty’s Kaathal – The Core had a similar subject, where the lead character was married and had to fight a battle to eventually come out without fear in the end. Although homosexuality was decriminalized in 2018, Hansal Mehta’s 2015 film Aligarh presented a similar topic that was based on the incidents that happened with a real-life character.
Although filmmakers have managed to bring the theme of LGBTQ without any worries to the big screen, the message has yet to be properly conveyed to society. This is possible only when the scripts will focus on the struggles of this community.

We have seen in most cases that two men fall in love and they had to convince their family and community members to accept their relationship. But apart from this, there are a lot of other issues being faced by the LGBTQ that need to be explored.
