Lowest Opening Of Alia Bhatt In 10 Years

Lowest Opening Of Alia Bhatt In 10 Years

Alia Bhatt has been a successful actress in Hindi cinema for over a decade. She has starred in many big hits and has even led solo female-led films to success at the box office.

However, her latest film, Jigra, opened with surprisingly disastrous numbers. It earned only ₹4.55 crore on its first day in India, the lowest opening for any of her films in ten years. The last time her film opened below 5 crores was in 2014, Highway.

It did see a slight recovery on the second day, earning ₹6.50 crore, but this may not be enough. The film is heading for a weekend of 18 crores and a lifetime below 40 crores. It’s nothing short of a disaster.

Historically, Alia’s films have opened with at least ₹7 crore, except for a few like Highway. Even her two biggest flops Shaandaar and Kalank had much higher opening numbers.

Unlike Alia’s previous successful films, Jigra lacked strong promotional backing and clear messaging. The film seemed confused about whether it was an action thriller or a family drama.

Moreover, it didn’t receive good reviews, unlike Raazi, which opened with ₹7.53 crore and eventually grossed over ₹124 crore net.

This disappointing start also adds to the struggles of Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. They have not had a successful film in India since 2019, and Jigra continues this trend of underperformance.
