A controversy has been sparked during Kolkata’s Durga Puja celebrations as three models faced massive backlash from the public for ‘inappropriate’ dressing at the puja pandals.
The controversy caught fire when Hemoshree Bhadra, Sannati Mitra, and their friend posted videos of them exploring various pandals on the streets of Kolkata in less-than-appropriate clothing. Their attire included a short orange dress with high boots, a fitted black gown, and a red blouse with black pants.

The public reaction to the video has been extremely furious, with people voicing their outrage by deeming the clothes highly inappropriate for such an auspicious and sacred occasion. The models received strong criticisms from social media as they were accused of destroying the sanctity and piety of the festival.
One user wrote, “Have some shame, at least wear good clothes in front of God,” while another condemned them for lowering cultural standards to gain cheap popularity. Activist Deepika Narayan Bharadwaj also criticised the models for exploiting a religious venue for self-gains.

The anger of the people has not been completely unjustified in this case, as there is a time, place and and outfit for every occasion, and deliberately putting on such outfits at an occasion like Durga Puja to gain a bit of publicity in the media is definitely something that should be condemned and called out.
