Mani Ratnam – Shankar Needs To Learn From This Legend?

Director Mani Ratnam is a legend in Indian cinema, and that’s beyond question. While many directors from his time have faded, he remains relevant even today.

His films may not always be big blockbusters, but they aren’t washouts either. Mani Ratnam stands out for his consistent work ethic and unique storytelling.

Unlike many senior and younger directors who take long breaks between projects, he has maintained a steady pace, delivering films regularly.

In the past two years, he completed his dream project, Ponniyin Selvan, and now he has two more films lined up with Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth.

His film with Kamal, Thug Life, is expected to be released in the summer of 2025. After that, he will work with Rajinikanth again, reuniting with both stars after decades.

His commitment and planning are qualities that young and senior directors can learn from, especially when many take too long to finish projects.

In contrast, directors like Shankar have been criticized for taking years to complete one film, often with disappointing results, as seen with Indian 2. Shankar’s habit of wasting time, money, and resources has raised concerns. No one expected him to deliver something as disappointing as Indian 2, which had almost nothing good about it.

Mani Ratnam, on the other hand, balances passion with productivity. He not only fulfilled his dream of making Ponniyin Selvan with decent success but also continues creating fresh, relevant stories, proving why he is still a role model for many directors.
