Blockbuster OTT Sequel The Platform 2 Gets Disaster Response

The Platform 2, sequel to Netflix’s highly acclaimed Spanish dystopian thriller ‘The Platform’, fails to fill in the huge shoes of its predecessor. It fails to build on its predecessor’s idea of a dystopian prison with a descending food delivery system, leaving the audience disappointed at best.

The story of the sequel starts without much of a recap of its first part. In the film, we are introduced to a new method of food delivery in which each inmate would only get their predecided meal, which they could swap with other inmates with due consent.

But this system quickly starts to fall apart as problems start rearing their heads one after the other. The Platform 2 also borrows liberally from concepts of Christianity and Capitalism, which often seem forced at times.

Repeated references to the Bible are shown where the Master is often referred to as ‘the Messiah’, along with there being a total of 333 floors with 2 inmates, producing a total of 666, the dreaded number in Christianity.

These over-forced references and seemingly rushed storytelling in the film lead to a lack of well-developed secondary characters along with deviating significantly from the thrill and suspense of its predecessor.

The Platform 2 also struggles to humanize its characters, which is something that the first film excelled at. People on social media have duly pointed out such weaknesses in the film, ranging from incomplete development to unengaging plots, and an ending that leaves people highly unsatisfied.
