    Indian Students In Danger After USA Elections?

    The upcoming United States election will not only decide the future of their country but also the future of Indian students who are seeking to get higher education outside India.

    In 2024, over 1.3 million Indian students opted to study abroad, with the US being one of the top destinations. This number is only expected to increase in the upcoming years.

    However, as we have seen recently western countries including Canada, the UK, and the US have started curbing immigration policies amidst fears of recession, high cost of living, and increasing population. This raises concern for the future crop of Indian students.

    This is why they will be looking closely at the presidential elections on November 5th as immigration is one of the major issues in both the candidates’ agenda.

    Kamala Harris advocates for an “earned pathway to citizenship” for all immigrants. But there is no further explanation of what policies she will implement.

    On the other hand, Donald Trump had softened his stance on immigration, proposing automatic Green Cards for foreign graduates to keep them employed in the US. Then, again, his recent controversial remarks about immigrants have thrown the cat among the pigeons.

    Both the candidates have a different stance on immigration but they acknowledge the importance of Indians in STEM field jobs and their contribution to the economy. Thus, it is in their best interest to enroll more Indian students at their universities.
