Indian Judge in U.S. Charged Over Social Media Post

In a shocking turn of events, it has been announced that Fort Bend Country Judge, Kyle Prasad George was indicted for allegedly lying about his identity in his highly contested 2022 election. The allegations center around a fake Facebook account, “Antonio Scalywag,” he allegedly used to discredit his Republican opponent, Trever Nehls.

The indictment is part of a larger probe that ensnared George’s former chief of staff, Taral Patel, who was accused of an alleged scheme to influence the election by creating fake racist and xenophobic attacks online. Patel, who is facing several felony charges, is accused of directing the creation of fake accounts to give the appearance there were threats, a tactic investigators said George knew about.

Those accusations resonated in Fort Bend County, perhaps as diverse of a country as any, where George, in 2018, became the first person of color to capture the top job. Now his razor-thin re-election victory margin, 51% in 2022, is a point of contention.

This has been a breach of trust for many. Community leaders, like Precinct 3 Commissioner Andy Meyers, publicly denounced such actions as “reprehensible” in order to gain an advantage by pitting people against each other. Nehls also came forward to express outrage over the allegations, claiming that such tactics weaponized racism and thereby undermined the very fabric that held Fort Bend Together.

However, perhaps the most emotional reaction comes from the community itself, where residents who once saw George as a symbol of unity are now grappling with feelings of betrayal. Can we still believe in those we elect to survey us?

Disappointed in the charges, George vowed to continue his work for the country. In a brief statement, he expressed his resolve to clear his name, but the indictment casts a long shadow over his tenure.
