HYDRAA Leaves Poor People In Tears

In Hyderabad, demolition drives by the HYDRAA authorities resumed today, targeting illegal constructions in Kukatpally and Aminpur. The demolition of three sites in these areas has sparked widespread outcry, with residents—particularly the poor—complaining that the demolitions were carried out without prior notice and without allowing them to retrieve their belongings.

The victims allege that HYDRAA officials demolished structures built on encroached land near a black pond without issuing any warnings. One devastated resident shared that he had invested Rs. 50 lakhs in setting up a food catering stall, only to see it reduced to rubble. The distress in Kukatpally’s Shanti Nagar was palpable as over 20 commercial establishments were demolished, leaving shop owners in shock.

HYDRAA is now facing strong criticism for its harsh treatment of the poor. There are accusations that while the officials provide notices and time to wealthier individuals, they are acting ruthlessly towards the less privileged, destroying their small businesses and personal belongings without prior warning.

Some victims, overwhelmed by the sudden loss, were seen pleading, “Kill us before demolishing our structures.” They expressed deep concern over the demolitions being conducted without any opportunity to salvage their valuables.
