- Wests Tigers post unusual Luke Brooks statement
- Club congratulate him for making the NRL finals
- Footy fans have ruthlessly roasted the statement
The Wests Tigers have been roasted by fans for taking the bizarre step of congratulating former halfback Luke Brooks for playing in the NRL finals with rival club Manly.
Brooks, 29, left the Tigers at the end of last season after playing 205 games and not featuring in the finals once.
The playmaker had a key role in Manly’s two second half tries on Sunday as they snatched a 26-24 victory against the Canterbury Bulldogs.
The Tigers posted a unusual tribute on their website to their former player’s milestone with an article this week.
‘Wests Tigers wish to congratulate former halfback Luke Brooks on his achievements over the weekend for Manly Warringah Sea Eagles,’ it began.
‘Brooks, 29, made the move to the Sea Eagles at the end of the 2023 season, after playing 205 games across 11 seasons at Wests Tigers.
‘Although he did not play finals footy in his time at the Tigers, Brooks certainly enjoyed his first taste of finals footy on Sunday, helping the Sea Eagles to a 24-22 victory over the Bulldogs.
CEO of the club Shane Richardson also congratulated Brooks in the statement.

‘Luke spent more than a decade as a Wests Tigers player, so he will always be a part of this family.
‘He showed loyalty when many didn’t.’
Footy fans were quick to ridicule the statement from the Tigers.

‘On behalf of the Cowboys I would like to take a leaf out of the Wests Tigers book and congratulate Kalyn Ponga on a successful season,’ joked another.
‘Here I was thinking that exploding pagers or Diddy’s “Freak Off” was going to be the wildest shit I read on the interwebs today…. Take a bow, Wests Tigers! You complete and utter freakshow of an organisation!’ posted a third.
‘Just when you think the Wests Tigers couldn’t get more cringe they do this,’ replied another.
