This silent hope for a better life abroad has turned out to be a nightmare after Delhi police uncovered a massive fake visa racket running into more than Rs 300 crore.

The racket had been operating for five years, preying on thousands of people desperate to go abroad in search of work. It issued more than 5000 forged visas.

All of this came unraveling with one man, Sandeep, who was caught trying to fly to Italy on a forged visa on September 2.

Sandeep’s confession brought a chilling fact to light: his case was not the only one.

Many had sold their lands, borrowed from family and friends, or spent their savings to pursue lives abroad. Sandeep had paid Rs 10 lakhs to an agent, Asif Ali, who turned out to be part of an elaborate nexus of forgers and middlemen.

Hopes of many like Sandeep were built on lies.

In the heart of the operation, a raid in the Tilak Nagar factory exposed this hub, led by Manoj Monga. The factory was equipped with hi-tech forgery tools.

These tools churned out fake visas in just 20 minutes. The speed and efficiency with which these fraudulent documents were created make it hard to believe that so many people were deceived in such a short time.

The aftermath for those who got entangled in this web of deceit is severe. It has caused not only financial ruin but also crushed the emotions of thousands of families, shattering many dreams.

These victims were desperate to find jobs overseas and paid up to Rs 10 lakhs for these fake visas. The scam targeted vulnerable individuals, leaving many in legal trouble or financial ruin.

Six people have been arrested so far, and authorities expect more to follow.

Deputy Commissioner Usa Ranganani, who is leading the investigation, urges everyone to be cautious when dealing with visa agents.

“We cannot let people’s desperation be exploited in this way,” she said, emphasizing the importance of using legitimate, licensed agents.

As the investigations continue, adding more victims with each passing day, one thing remains constant: the sad, grim reality that, for so many, the promise of a brighter tomorrow has been cruelly taken away.
