Thousands of mourners gathered for the funeral of Olympic marathon runner Rebecca Cheptegei, who died after she was set on fire by her former partner.
Dickson Ndiema attacked the 33-year-old Olympian with petrol outside her home in north-west Kenya, close to where she trained.
Among those at the funeral ceremony in a school field in Bukwo on Saturday (14 September) were fellow athletes. They wore t-shirts with the slogan “say no to gender-based violence“.
A Ugandan flag was placed over Cheptegei’s coffin as mourners held a minute’s silence and paid their respects to her.
