The Buckingham Murders – Can Lady Superstar Deliver Surprise BO Hit?

The Buckingham Murders

After Stree 2’s box office success, there has been a lull at the Hindi box office. The industry is surviving with the re-release of films like Laila Majnu, Tumbbad, Veer Zaara, and Rehna Ha Tere Dil Mein. Now Kareena Kapoor is returning to the big screen to revive Hindi cinema.

Kareena Kapoor Khan, one of the biggest female stars of the modern generation, makes her return to the big screen with The Buckingham Murders, directed by Hansal Mehta and produced by Ekta Kapoor and Kareena herself.

Premiered to a foreign audience last year, The Buckingham Murders has received positive feedback. Critics have praised Kareena Kapoor Khan’s performance as “flawless” and highlighted Hansal Mehta’s adept handling of the sensitive subject matter.

The Buckingham Murders is set for an All-India release by Pen Marudhar, focusing primarily on metropolitan areas with evening and night shows. The film is not a typical Kareena Kapoor vehicle, and the distribution strategy reflects a tight release on 700 screens in India.

Advance bookings, which began on Thursday morning, have been not impressive, with about 2,500 tickets sold in the top three national chains and expectations of around 7,000 tickets in total.

The film’s success will largely depend on evening and night show reports, with a potential start around the Rs 1 crore mark.

Hansal Mehta’s reputation for content-heavy films and Kareena Kapoor’s star power may drive higher weekend numbers if the film gains positive word-of-mouth.

However, the film’s niche appeal and lack of music may affect its commercial prospects. The real test will come with Friday’s business and the subsequent weekend performance.
