Three years ago, the violent attacks on the TDP central office and Chandrababu Naidu’s residence in the capital region sent shockwaves across Andhra Pradesh. These incidents, attributed to several key YSRCP leaders, have been a source of intense legal and political scrutiny.

The Andhra Pradesh High Court recently denied anticipatory bail petitions filed by the main accused, including MLCs Lella Appireddy and Talashila Raghuram, former MP Nandigam Suresh, Vijayawada East YSRCP coordinator Devineni Avinash, and other accused individuals. The court’s refusal to grant bail prompted many of these leaders to go into hiding.

The police managed to arrest two significant individuals in connection with the attacks—Nandigam Suresh and Avutu Srinivasa Reddy, the husband of Vijayawada’s Deputy Mayor. Both were remanded and are currently in jail. However, Devineni Avinash, another key accused, approached the Supreme Court for bail after evading arrest following the High Court’s decision.

If the Supreme Court grants bail to Avinash, it could set a precedent for other accused leaders to follow suit, potentially avoiding immediate arrest. This situation has raised questions about the effectiveness of law enforcement, with some accusing the Andhra Pradesh police of negligence for not detaining the accused promptly after the High Court’s rejection of their bail pleas.

TDP supporters, meanwhile, feel helpless and outraged, especially as the attacks targeted what they consider their “temple,” the party office, symbolizing a deeper wound in the state’s political climate.
