After COVID-19, Monkeypox is another dangerous outbreak that the World Health Organization is worried about. Monkeypox aka Mpox, has been widespread in African Continent, where it was spread to 13 countries, the largest outbreak the continent has ever faced.
Now, it looks like the virus reached India too. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in India detected the first suspected case of the Monkeypox virus in the current outbreak on Sunday.

In a statement, the Ministry informed that a young male patient who had recently arrived in India, with his recent travel history linked to a country currently experiencing Mpox transmission.
“The patient has been isolated in a designated hospital and is currently stable,” they added.

On the other hand, the Health Ministry also informed that the patient’s samples have been sent for testing to confirm the presence of the virus.
“The case is being managed in line with established protocols, and contact tracing is ongoing to identify potential sources and assess the impact within the country,” the Health Ministry said.

Regarding preparedness, the Health Ministry confirms that India is ready to tackle the health emergency. “The country is fully prepared to deal with such isolated travel-related cases and has robust measures to manage and mitigate any potential risks,” said the Health Ministry.
Monkeypox was first identified in India in 2022, with over 30 reported cases and one death. This marks the first suspected case in the ongoing outbreak.
