Transfer news LIVE: Deadline day latest as Arsenal chase Raheem Sterling, Jadon Sancho waits for Chelsea offer, Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney agree deals

New signing Joao Felix is ‘player that will help us’ says Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca

The transfer window is heading for a frantic conclusion tonight as Premier League clubs scramble to complete last-minute business before the 11pm deadline.

Arsenal are considering a late move for a wide forward, with Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling linked to a sensational move between the London rivals. The Independent reported that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is an admirer of Sterling from their days at Manchester City, but the club are unwilling to pay a fee for the 29-year-old.

Sterling has been told he will not play under Enzo Maresca at Chelsea, who are expected to be the busiest club on deadline day. The Blues want to sign a striker, but top options Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney have agreed deals with Saudi side Al-Ahli.

Toney is set to leave Brentford for £40m and has undergone a medical with the Saudi Pro League club, but Chelsea have not given up hope on signing Osimhen before the deadline and are hoping Al-Ahli will be unable to complete both transfers.

Elsewhere, Chelsea and Manchester United are set to agree to a deal for winger Jadon Sancho, who is expected to depart Old Trafford. United will also finally finish off a move for PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte, after Scott McTominay was sold to Napoli.

Frustrated Victor Osimhen wants Chelsea move

Various reports coming out of Italy suggest Victor Osimhen is very frustrated with Napoli, who he believes are blocking his departure for Chelsea as they hold out on the fee. Osimhen has supposedly made clear his preference to move to the Premier League.

A move to Al Ahli broke down and Ivan Toney appears to be the Saudi club’s choice, so could Osimhen still be Chelsea-bound tonight?

Ipswich still chasing Armando Broja as deadline nears

Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna remains relaxed as the club works on a potential deal for Chelsea striker Armando Broja ahead of the transfer deadline, but insists he has full faith in the squad as it is.

Town have been exploring a loan move with an obligation to buy for Broja, who is carrying an Achilles problem but has still been called into the Albania squad for the upcoming international break.

McKenna, though, admits it is “less likely than likely” the Suffolk club will be able to complete any more transfers ahead of Friday’s 11pm deadline, with reports also suggesting interest in Middlesbrough striker Emmanuel Latte Lath.

“There has been discussions with Armando (Broja), that is not a secret, and it is not a secret that he has got an injury issue,” the Ipswich manager said.

“The clubs are ongoing with discussions, it has to be the right thing for all parties. It has to be the right thing for us – that he can come and have a positive impact at a point in the season.

“It has to be the right thing for Armando, as it’s a very important moment for his young career, and the right decision for Chelsea, so those parties are continuing to discuss. We will see what is right and hopefully the best resolution will be found by this evening.”

Brendan Rodgers holding out for late Celtic moves

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers expects to have a stronger squad by the end of the transfer window as he predicted a “revolving door” in the final hours.

The Scottish champions are expected to wrap up deals for Augsburg midfielder Arne Engels and Sheffield United defender Auston Trusty ahead of the 11pm deadline.

They have been linked with other midfield targets including Dundee captain Luke McCowan, Switzerland Under-21 international Alvyn Sanches of Lausanne and Lyon’s Mahamadou Diawara.

Rodgers said at his pre-match media conference ahead of Sunday’s visit of Rangers: “We are in a really good place and we hope that by the close of the market we will have a number of signings sealed and making our squad stronger.

“That’s always the goal that we entered into this window. I don’t want to put any names until it’s signed but that’s the aim, we don’t want to just regenerate the squad, we want to improve the squad, and I believe that will be the case.

“The club have been great in terms of trying to push these deals through. Quality always takes that little bit of time.”

Wolves set to complete deal for highly coveted midfielder Andre

Another Wolves transfer, and this is a big one: 23-year-old Brazilian Andre.

Andre had been linked with a host of European clubs over the past 12 months after helping Fluminense win the Copa Libertadores. A transfer to Fulham earlier this summer fell through, and it now seems he’s heading to Wolves in a £21m move.

Wolves closing in on deal for 20-year-old winger Carlos Forbs

It sounds like a done deal for Wolves, who are signing a player from, yes, Portugal. Carlos Forbs only broke into the Ajax first team last season but clearly made an impression on watching scouts, and he knows English football after spending several years in Manchester City’s academy.

Aston Villa happy with summer shopping spree

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has declared himself “very happy” with his club’s business in the summer transfer window.

Villa have been busy in the market since securing a Champions League place for the first time since 1983 by finishing fourth in the Premier League last season.

They have spent just over £138m on seven new players, including Amadou Onana from Everton for £50m and Ian Maatsen from Chelsea for £37.5m.

Around £121m from outgoings has offset that outlay, with Moussa Diaby (to Al-Ittihad for £50.5m) and Douglas Luiz (to Juventus for £42.4m) among seven players who have been sold for fees.

Emery told a press conference: “Yes, very happy because we did what we planned at the beginning and the squad we have now, with some very important players, like Tyrone Mings and (Boubacar) Kamara, (Emiliano) Buendia, they are coming back progressively.”

Jadon Sancho latest: Chelsea and Manchester United reach agreement?

The Independent understands Chelsea and Manchester United are set to agree on a deal for winger Jadon Sancho before tonight’s transfer deadline.

Sancho wants the move, and Manchester United are open for offers with the 24-year-old not in Erik ten Hag’s plans for the season.

For Chelsea, signing Sancho could depend on whether Raheem Sterling leaves the club before the deadline, with Arsenal linked to a loan.

Pep Guardiola admits Man City could have made a ‘mistake’ in transfer window

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted it could have been a “mistake” to not sign a replacement for Julian Alvarez this summer.

The World Cup winner joined Atletico Madrid for a fee potentially rising to £81m – but the return of Ilkay Gundogan and the signing of Savinho are the club’s only incomings.

“I’m happy with the squad,” Guardiola said. “We didn’t expect Julian was leaving, although he had conversations a long time ago with other clubs and his agent, so it could happen and in the end it happened.

“We saw what we have, if we have many, many injuries it will be a problem, but in a few months Oscar Bobb will be back (from injury) and Phil (Foden) is in that position, McAtee can play in that position, Gundogan can play in that position, Bernardo…

“They are different players to Erling of course. Maybe it is a mistake, I don’t know but I don’t like leaving players without playing for a long time. When everyone is involved with a chance to play the performance of the teams is always better.

“I know the group and how serious and professional they are and their commitment in every single game. We are pretty sure it is better to wait.”

Lo Celso and Reguilon ‘exploring options’ to leave Tottenahm

It’s a quiet day in terms of incomings at Tottenham Hotspur, but Ange Postecoglou says there could be moves before the deadline for Giovanni Lo Celso and Serge Reguilon.

“Both players are exploring options and I won’t get to involved,” Postecoglou said. “There is today and another window so fair to say they are exploring options.”

Lo Celso was signed for a club record-equalling £55m in 2019.

Chelsea not giving up on Victor Osimhen

Chelsea are refusing to be beaten to the signing of Victor Osimhen, despite Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli reportedly agreeing terms with Napoli for the striker.

The Blues would need Osimhen to fit into their wage structure, and are hoping to agree a deal with Osimhen first before returning to Napoli with an offer.

With Ivan Toney all but agreed, Chelsea are hoping that they find themselves in a position to sign Osimhen if his proposed move to Al-Ahli falls through.

There remains doubts over whether Al-Ahli would be able to register both Toney and Osimhen, let alone whether they can afford it.
