US elections 2024: Who is Kash Patel, ‘the man who will do anything for Trump’

Kash Patel, a key figure in Donald Trump’s administration, remains a subject of intrigue and controversy. The Atlantic reports that Patel, a 40-year-old lawyer with limited government experience, ascended quickly through the ranks after joining the Trump administration in 2019, raising concerns among career officials.
Patel’s rapid rise included a controversial appointment as chief of staff to the acting Secretary of Defense shortly after the 2020 election.According to The Atlantic, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley warned Patel not to engage in illegal activities to keep Trump in power, though Patel has denied this account.
The Atlantic also noted that Patel’s potential roles, such as deputy director of the FBI and CIA, faced strong opposition. Attorney General Bill Barr reportedly told the White House chief of staff, “Over my dead body,” while CIA Director Gina Haspel threatened to resign.
Despite his lack of a clear agenda, Patel’s loyalty to Trump was unmistakable. The Atlantic described Patel as focused exclusively on satisfying Trump’s demands, a trait that set him apart in an administration filled with loyalists.
Patel’s tenure saw him move from the National Security Council to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and then to the Department of Defense, where he had significant influence.
Since leaving the administration, Patel has remained closely tied to Trump. He has promoted various merchandise, authored books like Government Gangsters, and produced content such as a song played at Trump’s 2024 campaign rally.

Patel has also been involved in controversies, including claiming to have witnessed Trump declassify materials related to the Mar-a-Lago records investigation. The Atlantic reports that Patel testified before a federal grand jury in exchange for limited immunity and continues to advocate for Trump’s positions.
Though Patel’s future roles in a potential second Trump administration might face challenges, such as Senate confirmation, his commitment to Trump remains strong. The Atlantic underscored that Patel’s enduring loyalty positions him as a significant figure in any future Trump presidency.
